The map above shows Cornwall, in the south-western peninsula of the United Kingdom. To give an indication of scale the distance from Polperro to Looe is approximately 4 miles, or just under 7 kilometres. 1 mile = 1.6 kilometres.

From London, travel from the M25, onto the M3, and then the A303, (dual carriageway most of the way) past historic Stonehenge, and onto the M5 at Exeter, and once again, southwest to the Tamar Bridge, near Plymouth. Polperro is just 40 minutes away. These are the directions from the M5.

The southwestern terminus of the M5 at Exeter becomes the A38 and you stay on it following signs to Plymouth, however DON'T head for Plymouth city centre, just stay on the A38 heading for the Tamar Bridge. There are 30 mph, speed cameras on the Tamar Bridge in both directions. The A38 then goes through the villages of Landrake, (there is a 40 mph, speed camera at the top of the hill either side of the green footbridge and in the dip at Notter Bridge) and Tideford. When you come to a large roundabout at a place called Trerulefoot, turn left onto the A374, and after about half mile turn right, onto the A387 signed for Looe, stay on that road, through lots of small hamlets, including Hessenford, Nomansland and Widegates, where the road changes into the B3253. You descend the hill into Looe and turn left, the road goes over the bridge at Looe and bear right, up the hill signed to Polperro (A387). The road levels out for 3 miles and you will then see the 'Welcome to Polperro' sign and descend the hill into the village. We are the first place in the village on the left, opposite the main car park. If you were to drive in a straight line, you would drive straight in through the covered lych gate. We have numbered reserved car parking spaces for our guests.

Plymouth Railway Station is on the main London - Penzance railway line. There's also a branch line from Plymouth to Gunnislake in Cornwall. Rail services from the city are now operated by three of the newly privatized companies. Great Western Trains provide a frequent service throughout the day and an overnight sleeper to London Paddington while Virgin Trains operate through cross-country services to major cities in the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland. South Wales & West Railway Company provides local and regional services.
You can get to Polperro by train and taxi. The trains from London leave from Paddington, and go through Plymouth to Truro, but you leave the train at Liskeard. You get off the train, and walk across the road to the Looe branch line. The Looe Valley Line winds its way for just over 8 miles through unspoilt countryside, hugging the steep sided valley of the East Looe River. Originally built for carrying copper ore and granite, the line runs next to the remains of the old Liskeard to Looe canal and remnants of the old lock gates are still visible. Between Looe, and the line's first station, at Sandplace, the river becomes tidal and so wide, that in some places the railway is forced onto a causeway with water on both sides. Whatever the season, the Looe Valley Line has something to offer, from the magnificent carpets of bluebells in the spring, the sight, sounds and smells of a Cornish Summer, to the majestic gold's and coppers of Autumn. On arriving in Looe, which is only 4 1/2 miles away, the best advice is to take a taxi for about £4.50, or if you are feeling energetic, walk the Cornwall Coastal Path.
During the summer tourist season a train rover ticket will provide scenic excursions throughout the whole of Cornwall, from Penzance in the West, Plymouth, in the East, Newquay, and St Ives in the north, and Falmouth, and Penzance in the south. Truro, our cathedral city, and local government administrative centre is also serviced.

Flights into the UK will normally land into either London Gatwick, which is close to the M25 or London Heathrow, which is alongside the M4. A number of international flights also come into Bristol and Exeter.
It is a little known fact that you can fly to Cornwall, by using two new services, (June 2005 & March 2004), which is operated by BMIbaby from Birmingham Airport and Durham Tees Valley Airport to Newquay and Air Southwest, from London Gatwick, to Plymouth. There are also services from Plymouth to other regional airports. The flight costs as little as £20.00 plus tax, on a single leg, and takes 50 minutes in the air. Sometimes you get a free trip to Newquay included in the itinerary which adds another 30 minutes to the flight time to, or from London. Flights can also be taken from many other UK regional airports either direct to Plymouth, or via Gatwick using this service.

In March 2002, the Irish carrier Ryanair announced a daily cut price service from London Stanstead to Newquay Airport on the north coast of Cornwall, just 45 minutes from the Inn.
Plymouth City Airport has links with London (Gatwick) and various other cities throughout the British Isles; and also with Paris. Brymon Airways, a wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways, provides national and world-wide air links with the convenience of departures from Plymouth City Airport just four miles from the city centre.

Car hire can be arranged by the local office of a national firm, who will collect you from the airport, take you to their offices to complete the paperwork, and then direct you to the A38. Thrifty Car Hire.
