For three years now, we have had a pair of Mallards visit the Inn every day during the nesting season (actually they visit the chefs for bread outside the kitchen door!). And every year we have looked after them and watched them hatch their little ducklings. Two days ago Mr Mallard visited us but was badly injured. This morning we managed to pick him up and he is now in reception awaiting help from the RSPCA. We live in hope that they can mend him ....
The RSPCA picked up Mr Mallard .. he has indeed broken his leg at the joint. Probably not possible to save the leg. I've insisted they bring him back with one leg if need be ..... I reckon we can cope looking after a one legged duck!?
It's so sad, but I'm afraid he didn't make it .... too badly injured. I guess that's the downside of living in the country - you can't always help however much you would like to ....
That is a great shame. The ducks were visiting in my days at the Inn. They hatched chicks somewhere along the bank and when old enough, they all floated down to the harbour.
